When God Writes a Different Story

Every now and then, God allows you to witness something that reminds you He is still doing the impossible.

To protect this young man’s identity, we’ll simply call him QC.

I first met QC while serving during one of our jail ministry visits. He was only 20 years old and was facing serious charges. During one of our conversations, he looked at me and said he was innocent. Then he asked if my wife would take his case.

I didn’t make him any promises.

I simply told him, “We’ll see what we can do, but I only move when the Lord tells me to move.”

Time passed, and I continued praying.

Then one night, the Lord placed QC on my heart. I couldn’t shake it. The next time I returned to the jail to minister, I sought him out. I asked him to tell me everything about his case. I listened carefully, gathered the details, and left believing God was leading us to get involved.

When I got home, I shared everything with my wife, and without hesitation, we went to work.

At the time, QC was carrying more than the weight of his case.

While he sat behind bars, his son was born. He became a father from a jail cell, unable to hold his newborn son. As if that wasn’t enough, he shared that his public defender had told him he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Humanly speaking, there seemed to be no hope.

His bond had been set at $5 million, making his release virtually impossible.

But God had another plan.

My wife faithfully advocated for him through the legal process while I continued mentoring him, praying with him, encouraging him, and reminding him that God always has the final word.

Then came the day we will never forget.

Standing in the courtroom, the judge made a statement that stunned everyone present. He said that in 19 years on the bench, he had never reversed a bond in his courtroom.

Yet that day, he did.

QC’s bond was reduced from $5 million to $10,000.

Only God.

What had never happened in nineteen years happened that day.

For us, the greatest miracle wasn’t simply that a bond was reduced. The greatest miracle was watching God breathe hope into a situation that everyone else believed was hopeless. A young father was given another opportunity to hold his son, be with his family, and pursue the purpose God had prepared for his life.

But the story didn’t end when QC walked out of jail.

For several months, he faithfully attended church with us. He joined our Wednesday morning and Saturday Zoom Bible studies, grew in his walk with the Lord, and surrounded himself with a community committed to helping him succeed. Some of my favorite moments were watching him bring his young son to church with us on multiple occasions. After missing the opportunity to hold his son at birth because he was incarcerated, seeing them worship together was a beautiful reminder that God is still restoring what once seemed lost.

QC also became the very first participant in our Inside Out System, a Christ centered reentry model built on the belief that transformation begins on the inside long before someone walks out of a jail or prison. Through discipleship, mentorship, accountability, biblical teaching, and genuine relationships, our desire is not simply to help people come home but to help them remain free in every area of life.

His story reminds us that successful reentry is about much more than release. It is about redemption. It is about restoration. It is about walking into the purpose God has prepared.

At Big Homie, Inc., this is why we do what we do.

Every jail visit matters.

Every conversation matters.

Every prayer matters.

Every act of obedience matters.

We never know what God is preparing on the other side of our yes.

Please continue praying for QC, for his family, and for every man and woman who will come behind him through the Inside Out System. Our prayer is that his testimony will be the first of many stories that point people to Jesus Christ and demonstrate that no life is beyond the reach of God’s grace.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”

Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)
